The origin of Cammie’s

So much of what I create has a story to it. However, the story of how I came up with Cammie’s is quite banal.

I landed on Cammie’s purely out of a lack of imagination. I had been brainstorming names for days and could not seem to find anything that sounded right. So for lack of options, I chose Cammie’s since it’s my name, it’s simple, and it’s catchy. While I’ve since created a whole backstory to it, at the time it was just a starting off point for me.

Now when I look back on it, I believe it was quite prescient of me to choose Cammie’s. Cammie is derived from my Vietnamese name, Nam Cầm. Cammie became my nickname growing up (sometimes just Cam), with only close family calling me that.

Cammie now represents everything that I bring to my baking - my Vietnamese-American culture, my inspirations, my passions, and some of my favorite things to eat. The identity of my bakery is so closely tied to who I am that I kind of laugh at myself now for trying so hard to come up with something different.
